Caring for Your Bed

We are delighted that you have chosen a Burgess Bed and hope that you enjoy the benefits of your new bed for years to come.

As an aid to you we have listed the basic information that you will need for the care of your Burgess Bed.

Upon Delivery

Please ensure that the protective polythene wrapping is thoughtfully disposed of as this could seriously endanger young children. For your ease, divan castors are already fitted. However, customers who have ordered a base with legs should screw them in securely and tightly.

Caring for Your Mattres

We at Burgess use several layers of top quality upholstery in our mattresses. These upholstery layers will settle in the first instance in the direct sleeping area. The settlement will, in time, encompass the whole sleeping area. There is no reason to become alarmed by this as any top quality mattress wil exhibit this characteristic and it will not affect the comfort of the bed. Please refer to the FAQ section for more information. You can help the settlement process by regularly turning the mattress from side to side and top to bottom and by adhering to the following simple guidlines:

Things you should do:

  • Turn the mattress regularly
  • Brush the sleep surface of the mattress regularly
  • Keep the mattress flat at all times
  • Regularly air the mattress

Things you should not do:

  • Fold or bend the mattress
  • Roll the mattress
  • Sit regularly on the edge of the mattress
  • Stand on the mattress
  • Use the mattress as a trampoline
  • Use the mattress in conjunction with anything other than a recognised good quality base

Caring for Your Divan

Things you should do:

  • Occasionally ensure that the castors/legs are securely in position
  • Ensure that the floor is level as excessive strain can be placed on the frame – this is particularly important if you have chosen a drawer divan as distortion of the drawer aperture can be caused. Occasionally ensure that the linking bars fitted on double sized bases and zip and linked bases are tightened properly

Things you should not do:

  • Stand on the base
  • Overload the drawers (where applicable)
