Frequently Asked Questions
- Should I purchase a very firm bed to ease my back pain?
- You need a new bed, which offers the right support for you as an individual. (Not necessarily hard at all) Please refer to the introduction to this section.
- How can I tell if a bed is comfortable enough for me?
- Spend as much time as you can lying on them deciding from previous experience the tension you would like or need.
- Does it make a difference what type of divan I have?
- Yes. Different types of divans give the mattress a different feel. Always check if you are purchasing just a mattress what type of divan it is on as if you place it on a different type when you get home the mattress will have a different feel. Please refer to our section on divans for further information.
- I have a bought a slatted bed base and would like a mattress to go on it, Are Burgess mattresses suitable?
- Yes. All our mattresses are suitable for slatted bases. We would recommend however that there is no more than a 3" gap between the slats.
- How do I know what size bed is best for me?
- The largest bed you can afford is best. Larger beds are more comfortable especially if you are sharing as you are less likely to disturb each other's sleep.
- Can you make me a non- standard size?
- Burgess are bespoke bed manufacturers and therefore can make beds of any size or any shape to suit the discerning customer.
- I am interested in purchasing a bespoke bed but am worried about finding the correct size bedding for it. Is there anywhere that makes bespoke bedding?
- There are lots of places that make bedding in unusual sizes. The one that we use frequently is called Acton and Acton, telephone number 01706 642 361.
- What do I do if my partner prefers a harder bed to me?
- We make most of our mattresses in more than one tension so you can have two separate mattresses of the same model but in different tensions made and zipped together.
- Are your beds fire retardant?
- Yes. By law, all beds have to be F.R. treated. We cannot sell a bed without F.R. treatment on it. Indeed all our products have a blue cigarette label stitched to the product stating that we comply with BS7177: 1996 for domestic use. (low hazard).
- I have bought a Burgess bed from a retailer and I have a problem with it. What should I do?
- In the first instance we would tell you to contact the retailer that you purchased the bed from but please be assured that any manufacturing fault will be dealt with swiftly.
- Do I need to turn my mattress?
- We recommend that all mattresses be turned regularly to ensure even wear and tear. As a guide please make reference to our caring for your bed section.
- The pocket sprung mattresses I have looked at seem lumpy. Does this mean there is something wrong?
- Categorically, no. Luxury pocketed beds do not have an even surface. They mould to your bodies contours and the indentations will remain apparent even when the mattress is turned. This is not a fault.
